The minimum domain lifetime is one year. This means that the domain cannot be registered for a couple of months. On the other hand, this does not mean that after a year it will be taken away from you and you will never see each other again. If the domain has served you faithfully, you can renew it.
The maximum lifetime of a domain depends on the domain zone:
- Domain .COM and .NET is a long-lived person, he lives up to 10 years. At the same time, you can register a domain in these zones for a shorter period (for example, for 5 years).
- Domain .RU, .RF, .SU lives for 1 year. If you don't want to lose it, you need to take care of the extension.
Stages of domain life
For example , consider the lifetime of the domain .COM:
- The registration period (green segment) takes from 1 to 10 years. If you forgot how long you registered the domain, you can check the date in Whois.
- The extension period (orange) lasts 40 days from the end of the previous period. At this stage, we advise you to decide whether to leave the domain or not, because at this time it can be extended at the usual cost. This is not blackmail, look further.
- Recovery period (yellow) = 30 days. At this point, the domain can still be snatched from the clutches of the registry (for example, if you forgot to renew it on time or changed your mind). What's the catch? Increased renewal price (7-10 times more than the initial one). But the zone registry sets it, not the registrars, and you can't argue with that.
- The deletion period (red) occurs the day after the end of the recovery period. The domain gets into the lists for deletion and it is impossible to renew it.
